A Medical Timeline

A Medical Timeline

This list, started by user TinyCandi, is a list of all of JM’s hospitalizations and the children’s illnesses over the years.

1981 – JM mentioned falling and being knocked unconscious and in the hospital a few days when she was in Paris with her family.

K’s birth – JM is 16 days overdue and “high risk;” she had the broken tailbone and all that crap (which is weird because she claims to have never broken a bone). JM got a fever while in labor and she said they pumped water back into her uterus? NICU “whisked away” K to clear meconium after he was born; she passed out.

2006 – K had unexplained hives for a year.

September 2006 – C was diagnosed with Grade II Vesico Ureteral Reflux and they declined the “required” meds. He never had more issues with it.

January 2007 – C was losing weight. Four doctor appts. “Meeting of the minds” and bloodwork with abnormal levels (some high, some low). Another appointment decided it was stomach flu.

February 2007 – C gained weight and she realized she had low supply.

April 2007 – C had double ear infection.

May 2007 – C had pneumonia and ear infection.

July 2007 – She had to do the Heimlich on K because he choked at the dinner table.

September 2007 – C had to have tests done to see if his kidney reflux was gone…it was. She was also in the hospital with kidney stones, kidney and bladder infection, and getting meds to stop contractions at 35 weeks.

October 2007 – M was born.

December 2007 – M was in the hospital for RSV (right after they got back from flying out of town). Her heart rate was over 200bpm. Less than a week later, K and C puked all over in the McD’s playplace. Just over a week later, M got sick at McD’s and went to the hospital over Christmas. Vomiting, cloudy urine, and was “unresponsive.” Doctors said they found a heart murmur and at first thought she might have the same kidney thing C had” but she didn’t. Results were that she had the flu.

Also, she claimed the people at the hospital gave her the “calm mom award of the year.”

March 2008 – announces pregnancy. They thought miscarriage at first but everything is okay except for an “anomaly” (which was her “cyst”).

April 2008 – C had pinkeye and she rushed K to the doctor;” found out he has asthma. Then a week later C has breathing problems and “might have asthma too” but I think it was later found he doesn’t. Also talks about the “complication” on her left ovary is “even more serious” and “may be cancer.” Also told her “cervix doesn’t look right” whatever that means. Anyway, the cyst on her ovary went from being “very concerning” to “doesn’t look cancerous” to a corpus luteum that is “certainly not cancerous.”

May 2008 – M taken to hospital by ambulance, struggling to breathe and pulse 200 with high fever. She took a picture of her in the ambulance. Turns out it was pneumonia. Then 4 days later she was BACK in the ER with suspected intussusceptions which is when the colon collapses back on itself. Turns out it was a blockage and gas causing her pain.

July 2008 – They find out about S’ heart and also that JM’s cyst is 3 times bigger than its biggest (measured 8cm). JM was hospitalized with S and having heart problems of her own as a result of the meds.

August 2008 – She was in the hospital for Cs birthday. Told the pediatric cardiologist had “never seen such a complicated case” and they were trying “risky and experimental” treatment for S.

September 2008 – M had a sore, blistered throat that was not strep (thought ear infection, but wasn’t) and K was taken to the ER because part of his fingertip was cut off at preschool. JM also had a “minor surgery” later about a “very suspicious for cancer” thing not related to reproductive health.

October 2008 – Had the biopsy (minor surgery) that “went great” and was “a little less concerned” that it’s cancer. Then she was in the hospital again overnight for her own heart issues resulting from the meds S needed. S was born a short time later with 9/9 APGAR scores.

They also didn’t take out her ovary because it was simple and not cancerous. The doctor who did her c-section also told her that she was a “good healer” and “honestly you have no scarring.”

December 2008 – While they were out of town for Christmas, S went to the ER because he was “exceedingly sick” with a high heart rate. He went home but then was rushed to the hospital by ambulance red light siren and admitted to the PICU.

March 2009 – S hospitalized with SVT again.

April 2009 – S to Boston for surgery.

June 6, 2009 – Said they went to splash pad “a couple times this week.”

June 7, 2009 – Posted that S was having lots of SVT.

June 8, 2009 – Went to the Children’s Museum; later posted that S was having high blood pressure.

June 17, 2009 – Went to the zoo “a couple days ago” then goes on to talk about S having more SVT.

June 18, 2009 – S to ER and admitted to PICU for SVT.

June 21, 2009 – S released straight from PICU and they went directly from the hospital to a huge pool party on the way home.

July 18, 2009 – MckPicnic

July 19, 2009 – S ended the 15 day SVT-free streak

July 22, 2009 – Cancelled trip to Blissdom; took S to ER for SVT.

July 23, 2009 – S in hospital; “S is in trouble.”

August 2009 – In hospital for C’s birthday AGAIN. S was discharged and then there was the Trip to California and mysterious “Where’s S?” issue.

September 10 & 14, 2009 – JM posted pictures from the kids at the park.

September 15, 2009 – S was hospitalized with SVT again.

October 9, 2001 – S taken to clinic to rule out ear infection.

October 17, 2009 – K had infection in one ear and S&M each had double ear infection.

October 21, 2009 – Urgent care; now C had an ear infection and S&M were worse.

October 24, 2009 – Posted about going to the children’s museum.

October 28, 2009 – S in PICU with SVT.

November 2009 – S went to Boston for ablation that cured his SVT.

December 23, 2009 – IM has MRI; “might be something.”

December 29, 2009 – IM’s MRI results are clear; “source of symptoms still a mystery.”

January 4, 2010 – K fell @ small group and landed on head. Fell asleep very quickly and was drowsy, so taken to ER to get checked out. Diagnosis: concussion. “No sign of brain bleed.”

January 6, 2010 – “All children are vomiting.”

January 22, 2010 – JM went on the cruise and was bit by something; she received IV steroids from the ship’s doctor.

April 2010 – L ultrasound showed what might be a VSD heart defect; apparently he didn’t end up having anything.

July 2010 – JM in the hospital for nausea, dizziness, etc. and then had kidney stone problems again and blood in her urine; also found out she had gestational diabetes. She was released and then was “right back in the hospital.” This was the incident where she said, “To make a long (embarrassing) story short, I ended up feeling awful on my way to meet Carrie, throwing up in the car as I drove, pulling over because I felt really dizzy and lightheaded, going inside an eating establishment to find a bite to eat and some more water, and passing out in line as I waited my turn.” Later it was realized she actually did go to the wedding. (I don’t remember her explanation for all that, but MWOP discussed it). Another kidney stone; she was transferred to the downtown hospital where she’d deliver L.

August 2010 – JM was back in the hospital again with kidney issues and missed Cs birthday AGAIN. L was born a “preemie” and was in the special care nursery.

September 2010 – L is healthy except an eye infection. She mentioned that she would be in the hospital again for “open abdominal surgery.” Then later she says the pregnancy and childbirth related issues will be gone;” hopefully it will be done laparoscopically. Of course, then she has the surgery and of course it “didn’t turn out precisely as we’d hoped.” They inspected it during her c-section and decided it “did not look good at all” but it was too risky to take out because pregnant women have more blood flow. Then it wasn’t a fluid-filled cyst, it was a tumor that might be cancerous. They couldn’t do it laparoscopically so they opened her back up at her c-section scar and also took out her left ovary and fallopian tube. She was released the second day after surgery.

October 2010 – JM was in the hospital AGAIN. More kidney issues. She also found she did not have cancer.

January 2011 – JM was in the hospital AGAIN for bowel obstruction.

May 31, 2011 – IM in hospital for sleep studies for apnea.

July 7-8, 2011 – JM taken by ambulance(s) from Yellowstone to hospital in Cody, WY for kidney stones; has stent placed.

July 9, 2011 – JM in Glendive, MT hospital (while on the way back to Frozen Tundra); on Dilaudid while blogging.

July 11,2011 – JM transferred to Bismarck, ND hospital; stent removed on 7/12. Takes bus home to MN on 7/16 after photoshoots.

July 18, 2011 – JM in hospital for kidney stone again; on Dilaudid. Has lithotripsy on July 19th.

July 28, 2011 – S is taken to ER for stitches after tripping and falling while JM is in Africa.

August 15, 2011 – JM in ER in Palm Springs, CA, sick with “some not great stuff.” Has “crazy tests” done, including lumbar puncture. Flies back to MN on August 16th.

January 11, 2012 – Stellan admitted to hospital due to “fever, lethargy, low O2 levels, poor perfusion, dusky.”

February 6, 2012 – JM admitted to hospital after jack knifing the Yukon with “trauma to her interal [sic] organs (spleen and bladder too). Her other injuries are less serious a bruised right leg and pelvis, bruising along her left arm and a general soreness all over that could be the body’s reaction today to all her adrenaline.” (per Admin’s comment on the blog)

March 9, 2012 – “Big Mac has strep throat. He’s actually feeling much better today (the day we got the call from the clinic that his overnight culture came back positive even though his initial one didn’t) though, so that’s good.”

April 4, 2012 – “Nuggey has strep throat. He got really sick. I took him to the ER in the night. He got the antibiotic shot and should feel better soon. Big Mac is sick now, too.”

April 6, 2012 – “It feels great to be home. Well, not to Small Fry. I think she has strep throat now. She got sick today and tonight.”

April 17, 2012 – “Stellan has the Fleaves [strep]. Small Fry is getting better now, but Stellan is still on the downward swing. This has been our first round of strep ever, with Big Mac getting it a few weeks ago. It’s terrible: high fever, headache and terrible abdominal pain. I asked the doctor to swab him even though his throat wasn’t red and he wasn’t complaining about it hurting.”

April 21, 2012 – “I need all the energy I can get because all five of my children have strep throat. Yes, again. We found out yesterday that Flurry’s 48 hour culture came back positive even though his 20 minute and 24 hour ones were negative. It’s miserable. Absolutely terrible. They are all on an antibiotic now, we are pretty sure we’ve figured out what caused this, and they’ll hopefully be on the road to health again soon!!”
